Will the Steelers base defense change under Butler?

Bob Labriola got the first interview with newly appointed Steelers Defensive Coordinator Keith Butler and among other questions he asked whether or not Butler plans to keep the Steelers in the 3-4 base defense they’ve been known for primarily throughout Dick LeBeau’s tenure. So the biggest question is for Butler is he a 3-4 guy or a 4-3 guy?

"“I would consider myself a whatever-it-takes-to-win guy. If it’s a 3-4, that’s fine, if that fits your players. I think you have to be able to fit your defense around the players you have. With what offenses are doing nowadays in the National Football League, they’re playing a lot of three wide receivers and a tight end and a running back, for the most part. In those situations, we’re going to be in kind of a 4-3 anyway, but we’re still going to be able to run 3-4 also. It gives you a little bit more versatility, I think.” – Keith Butler"

Mountain Main Makeover

It’s an annual tradition that Steeler Nation loves to take part in when DE Brett Keisel shaves his famous beard with surprise celebrity barbers. This year’s edition is set to take part on February 4th at Jergel’s Rhythm Grille at 7:00pm. A $50 donation gets you admission, your first drink and complimentary appetizers and all proceeds go to benefit cancer programs at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC. You can purchase your tickets right here.

Jerry O up next?

ESPN’s Scott Brown speculates that it’s not a matter of if but when the Steelers and Mike Tomlin will announce the promotion of Jerry Olsavsky from defensive assistant to the now vacant Linebackers Coach position. Olsavsky joined the Steelers staff as a coach in 2010 after a career playing with the Steelers from the late 80s to the mid-90s. Wonder who he would want to promote up to his spot after he receives his promotion?
