Hey Sprits!

Each year the fine people of Bad Lip Reading put out an NFL video. This year’s edition features several Steelers players including

Ben Roethlisberger

,

Jason Worilds

, and

Antonio Brown

. These are always good for a chuckle at the very least, just for the nonsense of it all. What else do we have to get us through the days if not for funny internet videos? Enjoy!

Art Rooney Award

Earlier this season, the NFL announced that it would inaugurate an award to recognize a player who best demonstrated on-field sportsmanship. Each team sent in their nominations and the Steelers chose Troy Polamalu as their first-time nominee.

The NFL has announced that the award is to be named after the late Art Rooney, the Steelers founder. The winner of the award will receive a $25K donation from the NFL to the charity of his choice and will receive the Art Rooney Trophy. Bob Labriola spoke with Steelers Chairman Dan Rooney about the award named for his father.

"“When I first heard about it, I wasn’t sure because I didn’t want it to be just another award. But then as we talked about it more, it became clear they wanted to make it a prestige thing. The Chief always was interested in what was good for the game, and this is going to be an award for how you handle yourself on the field. I’m glad it’s going to happen.” – Dan Rooney"

Sooner is better

Mark Kaboly of the Trib points out how much it would benefit the Steelers to sign Ben Roethlisberger to a contract extension sooner rather than later. The quarterback’s current deal runs through next season but carries with it an $18.4 million cap hit for 2015. If they restructure and extend his deal before the free agency period begins, they would most likely end up lowering his cap it for the season and free up space to re-sign other free agents to sign guys from outside.

Steelers President Art Rooney II reaffirmed his sentiments from before training camp of this season that the goal of this off season would be to extend Roethlisberger’s contract, but he wouldn’t give an exact time frame.

"“I think it is fair to say the sooner the better. But I am not going to put any particular time frame on these things. It is kind of hard to predict how long it takes to get something done. But we certainly want to get something done this offseason. That’s for sure.” – Art Rooney II"
