Wait for a RB in the NFL Draft

Last year the NFL Draft was stocked with wide receiver talent. The reality actually lived up to the pre-draft predictions as six rookie receivers caught for more than 750 yards, according to ESPN’s Scott Brown. Brown also explains that this year’s draft is where the Steelers should look for Le’Veon Bell‘s backup, but not before at least the fourth round.

The position of running back has slipped in importance for some reason over the course of the last few years and there hasn’t been a back taken in the first round of the draft since 2012. The Steelers should be able to find a quality back in the middle rounds with no problems at all. That doesn’t mean go out and draft a tiny “fast” guy in the third round who can’t get a first down if you spotted him seven yards.

Bettis Stats against HOF’ers

It’s that time of year again when the case needs to be made to justify the enshrinement of our beloved Jerome “The Bus” Bettis into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. The Steelers website has compiled a pretty thorough collection of Jerome’s stats against those backs that are either already enshrined or not yet eligible for enshrinement.

They’ve tallied everything from production to 100-yard rushing games and durability with 1,000+ rushing yard seasons and games played. They also point out that Bettis has quite possibly the best ball security vs. the Hall of Famers. Naturally everyone’s mind just immediately went to Jerome’s infamous fumble in the 2005 AFC Divisional game in Indianapolis though. But other than that one, which could have been just awful, he was very secure with the ball.

Keisel Shocked at LeBeau Departure

Brett Keisel is covering Super Bowl XLIX as a correspondent for Head & Shoulders and he spoke with the PFT Live crew about his feelings on everything from the departure of Dick LeBeau from the Steelers to his possible return. He said he was “shocked” to learn that the LeBeau had resigned and thinks the Steelers will stick with the 3-4 defensive scheme going forward under Keith Butler. He also thinks that safety Troy Polamalu will return to the team but didn’t give any clues on if he will return himself as he recovers from a torn triceps.
