Comparing Steelers to Patriots

While at the NFL Scouting Combine all the teams’ coaches and GM’s get to hobnob together and naturally being not far removed from the Patriots winning Super Bowl XLIX, it’s hard to not compare your team to New England. Steelers GM Kevin Colbert doesn’t try to compare the Steelers to the Patriots, according to Mike Prisuta, but let’s go ahead and see how far off the Steelers were from the Super Bowl Champs in 2014.

Here are some of the rankings that separate the Steelers from the Super Bowl Champion Patriots:

"Total Offense: Patriots – No. 11 (18th rushing, ninth passing)Steelers – No. 2 (16th rushing, second passing)Total Defense: Patriots – No. 13 (ninth rushing, 17th passing)Steelers – No. 18 (sixth rushing, 27th passing)Special Teams: Patriots – No. 3Steelers – No. 21Takeaway/Giveaway: Patriots – T-No. 2Steelers – T-No. 16Red-Zone Offense: Patriots – No. 9Steelers – No. 18Red-Zone Defense: Patriots – T-No. 6Steelers – No. 18"

Sign Harrison Now?

Ed Bouchette thinks that the Steelers should jump on James Harrison immediately. Of course he’d probably be able to lift them back up, one-handed, but seriously Bouchette took Harrison’s announcement that he’s going to start training for next season instead of retirement as a sign the Steelers should just go ahead and lock Harrison in now for one more year.

Many questions arise when Harrison made the announcement on social media Sunday night that he has no intentions of retiring and he was going to start training for another NFL season but the first one for me was after seeing all the workout videos he’s been posting the past month, if he’s going to start training for the season now, what the hell was he doing all that insane lifting for before? He just does that for funzies? He really is insane.

Bouchette makes a good point that given the Steelers’ current situation at outside linebacker and given Harrison’s insane physical condition, it kind of makes sense for him to be on the Steelers roster for one more season. What do you think, Steeler Nation?
