Steelers Sign Roethlisberger to Extension

The Steelers haven’t been completely asleep apparently. They’ve signed a contract, and it’s actually the contract we’ve all been waiting for. The team announced Friday afternoon that they’ve signed quarterback Ben Roethlisberger to a contract extension.

The team has scheduled a 5:00 pm ET press conference with Roethlisberger to officially announce the extension that will keep Ben a Steeler for life.

Roethlisberger was about to enter the final year of the eight-year, $102 million contract he signed in 2008. The team decided to not extend him last offseason, as most expected them to but both sides have long indicated confidence a deal would get done this Spring for sure.

Roethlisberger was also honored by his college athletic conference, the MAC, on Friday when they announced that he would be inducted into the Mid-American Conference Hall of Fame this summer. Roethlisberger was a 1st round draft pick for the Steelers in 2004 out of Miami University of Ohio.

His junior year at Miami he threw for 4.486 yards and 37 touchdowns on the way to win a MAC Championship and GMAC Bowl victory.

For the Steelers, Roethlisberger has been voted to three Pro Bowls, but more importantly, has been to three Super Bowls with two victories so far in his 11-year career.

Roethlisberger completed his best statistical season in 2014, beating his own franchise records for passing yards and touchdowns in a season.

Is this enough to make Steelers fans happy after an otherwise dormant free agency so far?
