Steelers Rival Ravens Sign Matt Schaub As Backup

The Steelers face Ravens QB Joe Flacco a lot.

That’s in part because he hasn’t missed a game since being drafted in 2008. Only Eli Manning and Philip Rivers have longer streaks.

That doesn’t mean the Ravens should go without a sensible backup just in case.

After losing Tyrod Taylor to the Buffalo Bills during the early parts of free agency, the Ravens needed another #2 backup or allow Keith Wenning to be next in line.

The Ravens went ahead and signed Matt Schaub on Tuesday to a one year deal worth $3 million. The former single season league leader in passing yards got the boot after some rough seasons in Texas and landed in Oakland to stand on the sidelines.

Schaub never started a game while in Oakland and was released on March 16th.

Due to Flacco’s iron man like ability to never miss significant time on the field, Schaub might get $3 million for holding a clipboard all season.

However, were he to spell Flacco for any significant amount of time, the Ravens are in better shape than they were with Taylor or Wenning at the helm.

So what does this mean for the Steelers? Nothing too concerning.

They’ve only faced Schaub a couple of times where he’s gone 39 of 54, 340 yards, two picks, and two touchdowns.

The key as always has been with the Ravens is being able to crack through that offensive line. Do that and they will always beat the Ravens, no matter who their QB is.
