The Pittsburgh Steelers are officially on summer vacation. They’ve wrapped up their minicamp and will head out to parts unknown for the next four weeks until reporting to the dorms of Saint Vincent for the Steelers’ 50th season of training camp in Latrobe. While the Steelers are enjoying their summer break we’ll be busy looking for mentions of your Black & Gold so we’ve got you covered. Here’s your Steelers Morning Huddle for Tuesday, June 30th.

Get to know Gerod Holliman

Teresa Varley gives us some insight into one of the Steelers 2015 draft picks. Safety Gerod Holliman was selected in the seventh round of the 2015 NFL Draft out of Louisville.  When asked who his football mentor or inspiration was he cited safety Ed Reed, known for his hard hits and interceptions.

Right now he’s looking up to Shamarko Thomas, as the two play the same position. He also is proud of the interceptions record he set at Louisville. He was asked what his proudest football moment or memory was to date.

"“It would be setting the NCAA record in interceptions.” – Gerod Holliman"

Go ahead and feel free to set some interceptions records here, if you like. We’ll have no problem with that.

Pouncey’s Image

There are very few that actually think “bad guy” when they hear the name Maurkice Pouncey. He and his brother have been involved in some iffy incidents what with the Hernandez hat some people can’t ever forget about (we’re looking at you, Craig LOL) and a nightclub assault accusation that never amounted to any charges.

Pouncey and his twin brother Mike are now considered leaders on their respective teams and have the big contracts to live up to. The twins are taking the time to learn and grow to improve not only their images, but also their home town. As ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler explains, they hosted a free weekend full of youth football camp activities in their home town of Lakeland, FL.

"“We made some mistakes in the past and we learned from them. I’m glad they happened because you always got to learn in life. We were young … then, but we’re grown up and trying to be the positive role models – something for the kids back in Lakeland to look up to – and it means a lot to us. Anytime we did get in trouble in the past, it hit us in the heart. We learned the hard way.” – Maurkice Pouncey"

Family Feud

Steelers Antonio Brown participated in an episode of Celebrity Family Feud featuring the AFC vs. the NFC. He teamed up with Terrell Suggs, Nick Mangold, Antonio Gates and DeMarcus Ware and defeated the NFC team let by Vernon Davis, Eddie Lacy, Calais Campbell, Matt Forte and Thomas Davis.
