Steelers training camp: Tomlin Saturday

The Steelers checked into the dorms of Saint Vincent College on Saturday afternoon and Coach Mike Tomlin had him out on the field for their conditioning test within the end of the day. After the conditioning test Tomlin spoke to the media about the PUP list and answered questions.

The team will start out training camp with five guys on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list; QB Bruce Gradkowski (shoulder), center Maurkice Pouncey (foot), OL Mike Adams (back), safety Senquez Golson (shoulder) and LB Shawn Lemon (Achilles).

Mike Adams has quite possibly the most serious injury of the group as he had surgery on his back just last week and will be out pretty much the entirety of camp.

"“Bruce Gradkowski will start (on PUP) with a right shoulder injury. Really no update there. We will watch how he feels and perks up. Mike Adams had a back procedure on July 20, and he will be out approximately four weeks. Shawn Lemon has an Achilles strain. Maurkice Pouncey has a right foot sprain that happened in training, but it’s very minor. Senquez Golson has a shoulder injury, and we will monitor it. No real update or anticipated lengths of time with these guys other than Mike Adams because he had a back procedure that requires about four weeks of rehabilitation before he’s ready to go. But largely I am excited about the overall readiness of the group and excited about getting started.” – Mike Tomlin"

Tomlin addressed the Le’Veon Bell situation saying that he has no information on Bell’s appeal for his three-game suspension and that during camp he will get the reps with the first team in spite of the fact that he will most likely be missing some time to begin the season.

When it comes to the Steelers having the extra week worth of training for the preseason due to playing in the Hall of Fame game Tomlin noted that he’s excited because he just loves training camp.

"“I’ll take whatever time they give us. Man, I love training camp.” – Mike Tomlin"

He was asked if it was an advantage for the team to have the extra week and he explained that it will only be an advantage for them if they make it one.

"“I’ll take it. It’s an advantage if we make it one. It also can be a detriment if we don’t use it wisely. I respect it.” – Mike Tomlin"
