The Steelers are trying to pick up the pieces from losing their overtime game against the Baltimore Ravens. While they turn their sights towards the San Diego Chargers we’ll be busy looking for mentions of your Black & Gold so we’ve got you covered. Here’s your Steelers Morning Huddle for Saturday, Oct. 10th.

Tackle with your feet

If you watched the Steelers defense give up 191 rushing yards to the Baltimore Ravens last week you noticed a hell of a lot of missed tackles in those 191 yards. Teresa Varley has linebacker Arthur Moats explain how the team can try to correct those mistakes in practice when they can’t actually tackle each other.

"“The biggest thing is with us not having a lot of contact in practice, we call it come to balance. When we are attacking a runner off in practice, don’t just reach for him because in a game if you are just reaching for him you are more than likely going to make an arm tackle and it’s not going to be too efficient. If you come up and you are two handed tagging him in a nice football rated position, broken down and stuff like that, you are going to have a higher rate of success. Ultimately the fundamentals of tackling we have to drive our feet. A lot of the tackles we miss, we are holding on to them, but we are not driving our legs and that’s ultimately how we are going to have a lot of tackles.” – Arthur Moats"

How do you get Williams the ball more without taking it from Bell?

Through the first two game of the season Steelers running back DeAngelo Williams ran for 204 yards on 41 carries. Since Le’Veon Bell has returned from his two game suspension Williams as had three carries for 8 yards. ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler says that Steelers offensive coordinator Todd Haley is trying to juggle the rushing workload between the two running backs.

Surely the Steelers didn’t intend on Williams only contributing for the two games this season they knew they’d be without Bell. But how do you honestly justify taking the ball away from one of the league’s best running backs?

The answer will probably present itself while Ben Roethlisberger is injured and the offense has to adjust to Michael Vick under center. There should be an increased workload for both running backs, who obviously have different styles of running but who can definitely both contribute positively for the offense.

Still learning

Speaking of the offense, Ray Fittipaldo of the PPG reminds us that Mike Vick is still trying to learn what clearly took at least a few seasons for Ben Roethlisberger to perfect with Todd Haley’s offense. Haley is making adjustments to tailor the offense to Vick, but it’s still a learning process.

"“Learning a new system in general is tough. They’re so far along, so advanced with what they’re doing with Todd and Ben and what they’ve been able to implement. It’s a great offense. It’s going to take some time to learn, but I’m piecing everything together like a puzzle and I’m feeling more comfortable each and every day.” – Mike Vick"
