Steelers game day grub: Chicken and Steelers waffles

There really is no place like home. Considering all the trouble the Steelers have run into on the road this season with malfunctioning headsets, fires and clock errors I’d bet they were more than happy to return home to the comforts of Heinz Field.

I’m happy as well, because we have ourselves a good, old fashioned Sunday afternoon game. Just like God intended. You can take your prime time games and shove ’em. I’ll take my football on Sunday afternoon, thank you very much.

And, while we’re at it. I’ll take some tasty tailgating or home gating food to go along with my afternoon of football. With the Arizona Cardinals or “Pittsburgh West” coming to town I can’t help but be in the mood for some leftovers.

Not just boring leftovers, but repurposing leftovers kind of like how the Arizona Cardinals like to take all of the Steelers’ leftovers and repurpose them. Over the years the Cardinals have taken many a discarded Steelers player like Rashard Mendenhall, Jonathan Dwyer, Bryant McFadden, even William Gay spent some time out there before returning to Pittsburgh.

Currently the Steelers leftovers with the Cardinals are head coach Bruce Arians (former Steelers offensive coordinator), LaMarr Woodley (former Steelers linebacker) and linebacker coach Larry Foote (former Steelers linebacker).

Enough about leftovers, let’s get into the food. For the Ravens game we made copycat chicken and if you were smart, you make yourself a big ole batch of them. We’re going to use the leftovers from that for this recipe.

For the waffle part of chicken and waffles, I find that The Pioneer Woman has a fantastic waffle recipe you should check out. Make a big batch for your Saturday morning breakfast, and you’ve got yourself leftovers for chicken and waffles.

Chicken and Steelers Waffles

The reason why these are Steelers waffles is because they are made in a Steelers waffle iron. The waffles made in it taste like six Super Bowl Championships. Just delicious. Perfect gift for the Steelers fan in your life who appreciates a good waffle.

Just warm up your chicken in the oven and throw your waffles in the toaster or microwave; however you prefer to reheat them. Top with butter, syrup and any other kinds of sauces you like. You can go crazy here and add honey mustard, hot sauce, fruit compotes. You can throw them together and make yourself a waffle sandwich. There are no rules here.

Put them together and you have chicken and Steelers waffles. All made with repurposing leftovers. Now let’s go out there and kick those former Steelers’ ass!

Enjoy the game and the grub!

Here we go Steelers! Here we go!
