The Steelers beefed up their defensive line with their third round draft pick when they selected defensive tackle Javon Hargrave out of South Carolina State.

With the 89th overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft the Steelers selected the beast of a man Javon Hargrave. The 6’2”, 305 lb. nose tackle collected 13.5 sacks in his 2015 season at South Carolina State on his way to his second time being selected as SBN Sports Mel Blount Defensive Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference.

Seems like he was destined to wear the Black & Gold, huh?

The biggest upside to Hargrave is that the Steelers got themselves a defensive lineman who can play every down rather than a nose tackle who would play like 25 percent of the defensive snaps. Hargrave can rotate in with Cameron Heyward and Stephon Tuitt regularly, making the loss of Steve McLendon to free agency a distant memory.

This should be a pick that very much pleases Steelers defensive line/assistant head coach John Mitchell as well as Heyward and Tuitt. Heyward announced the pick and took to Twitter immediately to welcome his new teammate.

Looks like this plan of beefing up the defense is moving along quite nicely. What do you think of the draft so far, Steeler Nation?
