Steelers season never truly ends for Steeler Nation so while the team starts to put in the work to prepare for the 2016 NFL season we’ll be busy looking for mentions of your Black & Gold so we’ve got you covered. Here’s your Steelers Morning Huddle for Wednesday, June 1st.

The defensive backs beneath his wings

The Steelers defensive backfield has gone through an overhaul in the last few seasons but as Michael Mitchell enters his third year with the team he finds himself in the role of mentor rather than new guy.

More from Steelers News

Mike Prisuta explains how Mitchell and cornerback William Gay are taking to leading and mentoring the infusion of youth in the Steelers’ secondary. He has Mitchell’s remarks about how being able to lead other players is something a player earns through time and by example on the field.

"“It’s something that you earn. You definitely don’t do it as the new guy. I was kind of more silent my first year and kinda tried to do it by example last year, I tried to speak up a little bit more.” – Mike Mitchell"

A buck-fifty

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reminds us that in 2002 Marvin Harrison set the NFL record for most receptions in a single season with 143 receptions. Antonio Brown had 136 receptions last year with Ben Roethlisberger missing games so going for 150 receptions in 2016 is a realistic goal.

All this talk about Brown getting 2,000 yards, 150 receptions, the offense averaging 30+ points I could really give a crap about, to be honest. Just score more points than the other team each week and do the same in the playoffs and the Super Bowl. The rest is just decorations along the way.

Missing time

Steelers cornerback Senquez Golson had an MRI last week and has missed a couple of OTA sessions, according to the Trib’s Chris Adamski. On Tuesday Golson confirmed the MRI but explained that it wasn’t for the shoulder injury that kept him out his entire rookie season.

Next: Steelers travel time

He explained that his absence from OTAs would just be temporary and wasn’t anything to worry about. For a player that never even played in a single training camp practice yet, you can’t help but worry a little. Hopefully all is well for Golson and he resumes training sooner rather than later.
