Just breaking more records, NBD

Ben Roethlisberger just needed the comforts of home to return to the form of airing the ball out to receivers and making it rain touchdowns. Ray Fittipaldo of the PPG reminds us that Roethlisberger became the sixth NFL quarterback in NFL history to throw five TD passes in five games so far in his career.

He joins the company of the likes of Drew Brees, Peyton Manning, Dan Marino, George Blanda and Tom Brady who all threw at least five touchdowns on at least five separate occasions.

He’s also thrown at least three TDs in five consecutive home games and with his three first quarter touchdowns became the second Steeler to accomplish that feat.

Don’t laugh. Bubby Brister was the first to do that in December of 1990 in a 35-0 win over the Browns.

Bell is back

Mike Tomlin told everyone that we were definitely going to see Le’Veon Bell on Sunday night and we were going to see a lot of him. Tomlin was right. ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler breaks down Bell’s stats for the night which includes 18 rushes for 144 yards and five receptions for 34 yards.

Don’t worry about any lingering effects of Bell’s knee injury that ended his season last year, he only had 89 yards after contact on Sunday night in the 43-14 win over Kansas City, the second most in his career.

The Sack Man

Teresa Varley tells us that defensive end Cameron Heyward was all about patience when it came to the Steelers defense. While many were calling for concern over the lack of sacks Heyward assured that they would come eventually, and they would come in bunches.

He wasn’t wrong. Heyward delivered three sacks against Chiefs’ quarterback Alex Smith on Sunday night. After going through the first three games with only one sack the defensive unit got to Smith four times. Linebacker Vince Williams got the other sack.
