Pittsburgh Steelers: 6 musts for making Super Bowl LIII – Part II
Better team chemistry
Team chemistry has been a big problem over the past two seasons. Between Antonio Brown’s locker room antics, Martavis Bryant’s personal problems and Le’Veon Bell’s contract issues, the team has failed to gel into a cohesive unit. Leading to underwhelming performances.
Head Coach, Mike Tomlin, needs to do a better job of meshing the players’ and coaches’ personalities into one identity. Where the collective thinks of “team” over “self.”
Coach Tomlin also needs to do a better job of motivating the players and coaches to work harder, to sacrifice more and to support each other.
Coach Tomlin can’t do it alone. Key players need to step up and be proactive leaders. Roethlisberger, Brown, Heyward, etc., must lead by example. These leaders must demonstrate why team loyalty and unselfishness is so important. They must be prepared to encourage when necessary and admonish when necessary, to ensure everyone is on the same page.
If each player and coach knows his role, handles his business professionally and buys in to the “team” concept, the Pittsburgh Steelers will be nearly unstoppable.
Parts I and II provided a blueprint for winning another Super Bowl. We’ll have to wait and see if: Ben makes it through the season; the defense can stop the run; Chris Boswell remains clutch; the stars stay healthy; the team gets a little lucky; and there are no distractions.
