Pittsburgh Steelers: Getting a new defense, schemes and players
Coaching Schemes
There are some things obviously that the defense must correct such as tackling, consistently stopping the run and of course big plays. This is only the second game counting the preseasons third game in which they have all played together except T.J. Watt.
There are going to be missed calls and every scheme called will not work all of the time, but Keith Butler has a fast physical defense and when on their game, will be tough to beat. I can only imagine what a less mobile QB would of had to endure and under sunnier conditions.
I think Butler is finding his groove with the system he has in place and it is up to the players to make it happen. There are no excuses not to.
Let a better team beat you but don’t beat yourselves, I know, is one of his mottos. It doesn’t matter if he institutes a 3-2-6 or a 4-1-6 or 2-2-7 or any variation of the three, getting it done is all that matters. They will play much better then they did yesterday and don’t be surprised if this defense begins to make an identity of its own around the league.
They now have the pieces and the schemes in place to hold up their side of the ball. The balance of the team perhaps the conference will probably depend upon it.
