Fix the kicking game

The biggest surprise so far this season, is the play of Kicker, Chris Boswell. He has yet to make a FG. Missing on both attempts between 40-49 yards. He has also missed an extra point.

This is not the Wizard of Boz I know and love. He has had good snaps and holds on each of his misses. So, what’s the issue? Is it mental? Is it poor mechanics? Or both?

It’s both. Boswell’s pulling the ball across his body. Like he’s overcompensating for something. And if you look at him on the sideline. His head is down. He looks dejected. Maybe he’s uncomfortable. Maybe he’s thinking too much. Who knows?

But what I do know is that Boswell and Special Teams Coach, Danny Smith, need to review past and present film, strip down the mechanics and determine what’s different now. Then make the appropriate adjustments. Which might include therapy or hypnosis, if necessary.

The Steelers need Boswell to get back on track. Because he’ll be asked to win 2 or 3 games this season. Without him – bye bye playoffs.

There you have it. Securing another postseason berth, requires that the Steelers: drastically improve their defensive communication; re-configure some of their defensive personnel packages; and get Chris Boswell back to Pro Bowl form.
