Ryan Switzer: stock – down

Switzer played today, but you almost wouldn’t know it. The main reason anyone would know he played was his muffed punt that he luckily corralled before it became a disaster.

Diontae Johnson replaced Switzer as the punt returner from that point on. Switzer’s appearance in the passing game was muffed as well as he caught only one pass on four targets and gained a whopping zero yards.

Switzer is another name that the Steelers hoped would step up as they try to replace Antonio Brown by committee. That is a tall task when no one seems to want to claim a wide open number two spot.

Honorable mentions

Devin Bush gets an honorable mention as he had an even stock game. He did not look good in coverage as he was beaten at least twice down the middle, including one touchdown to Will Dissly.

Bush played a lot more than he would have had Vince Williams not been injured. Hopefully, the trial by fire sparks him to adjust and improve.

Mason Rudolph also deserves a ton of credit as he kept this team in it until the end and played like a veteran and not a second-year player in his first NFL regular season action. He finished with 12-of-19 for 112 yards and two touchdowns while Moncrief cost him an interception.

The Steelers had a lot of injuries in the game, and that will inevitably impact the coming week three match-up in San Francisco. They may have to roll with Rudolph if Ben is seriously hurt.

The team is 0-2 and now finds themselves in a must-win situation early in the season. If they can’t come up with a win in week three, the panic meter will be broken in Pittsburgh.
