Devin Bush is just scratching the surface

There is no question the Steelers defense has improved by leaps and bounds since last season, but Devin Bush hasn’t necessarily been the star of the show. As we can expect from a 21-year old rookie, there are going to be some growing pains.

Fortunately, T.J. Watt, Minkah Fitzpatrick, and Cameron Heyward have helped pick up the slack. Even with the acquisition of Bush in the draft this offseason, inside linebacker is still the biggest weakness on Pittsburgh’s defense. However, it may not be long until it turns into a strength.

Bush is obviously a fantastic athlete, but he occasionally guesses wrong or gets himself out of position. We can see that all of the tools are there, but they just have to start meshing together. The more the 10th overall pick continues to play, the more comfortable he will be in recognizing each situation on the field.

Devin Bush may not be one of their top defensive performances at the moment, but when he gets up to speed, look out! This defense will be scary. Until that time, we just need to remember that one of the league’s youngest players is just starting to scratch the surface of his potential.
