The Steelers veteran cornerback seals the victory with an interception

The Steelers defense has been playing exceptionally well and against the Cardinals, it was no different.  Nursing a 6 point lead late in the fourth quarter, Joe Haden, the veteran CB, sealed the deal with an INT, which was his second of the game.  What a way the finish it for Haden.

I think it’s refreshing to see the ‘wily old veteran’ come up big at the end of the game to help secure another victory for the Steelers and to keep that ‘winning’ train rolling. At this point in the season, our best players need to step up and Haden did just that.

With Haden’s two picks and another pick by T.J. Watt, in the end zone, I might add, the Steelers ‘D’ finished the day with three picks,  With those three picks, the Steelers defense has 18 INTs for the season, which ranks 2nd best in the NFL.

The ‘D’ was also able to generate 5 sacks, which brings their total number of sacks to 48 for the season.  That is the best in the NFL through 13 games.  ‘Blitzburgh’ is alive and well in 2019.  Overall, the defense ranks 5th in average yards allowed per game.  I really can not say enough about how well the Steelers defense has played since week one against the Patriots.

It is precisely this level of play that will be the deciding factor in whether or not we make the playoffs.  You have to be encouraged that, despite the fake punt call that was apparently called off and despite the fact that the offense did not play superbly, the Steelers found a way to win a game on the road.  If we can win at home and on the road, all the better for us.

The Steelers keep winning and keep playoff hopes alive

Armed with the 5th ranked defense in the NFL, the Steelers ground out a win against the Cardinals.  The offense was good enough to compliment the tenacious ‘D’ that we have fielded since winning only one game out of five games to start the season.

Football is the ultimate team sport and the 2019 Steelers are a testament to that axiom.  While there are players who have been spectacular all season, no individual can win a game on his own merit.  Here’s to a team victory; here’s to the team keeping the ‘winning’ train rolling.
