Ben Roethlisberger must stay upright and healthy

Going along with the offensive line theme, it’s obviously critical that Ben Roethlisberger stays injury-free if the Steelers are going to have a successful season in 2020. But this responsibility doesn’t fall on the offensive line alone.

While it will be important for this unit to mesh together early in the season, Pittsburgh’s tight ends and running backs will need to know every little assignment and blitz pickup to keep Big Ben upright this season.

After playing just 4 healthy seasons in his first 16 years, Roethlisberger will attempt to stay on the field for all 16 games for just the second time since 2014.  If he can do that, the Steelers will have a chance to go far.

Obviously, some things are beyond the control of his pass protection – like his elbow injury from a season ago. It will be interesting to see if the Steelers keep Ben on a pitch count or if they will let the veteran quarterback cut it loose this year.

The Steelers are going to have their work cut out for them in 2020, but if they can do these things, they will have a chance to compete not only this year but in the future as well.
