Minkah Fitzpatrick

Despite a dominant All-Pro performance by the Steelers safety in just his second NFL season in 2019, there was at least some level of concern with Minkah Fitzpatrick though the first quarter of the 2020 NFL season.

According to Pro Football Reference’s advanced analytics, Fitzpatrick saw 10 targets in the first four games of the season, but was never credited with a single pass defense. In fact, there weren’t any instances where Minkah was even close to making a play on the ball. All of that ended against the Browns on Sunday.

On Cleveland’s very first drive of the game, we saw the Minkah Fitzpatrick fans have come to know and love, as he darted in front of a pass and took the ball the other way for a defensive touchdown. Minkah has been very quiet for the Steelers in the early going, but perhaps this game-changing play against the Browns will give him the confidence he needs to continue to trust his instincts and make plays on the ball.

With Pittsburgh’s front seven continuing to put quick pressure on opposing quarterbacks, I highly doubt this will be Fitzpatrick’s only interception on the season.
