Chase Claypool: Total touchdowns

Current stat: 6

Season pace: 19

There isn’t a person out there who would have predicted that rookie wide receiver, Chase Claypool, would have 6 touchdowns in his first 5 NFL games, especially considering the circumstances. It’s not like Claypool was a first-round draft choice this year, and the Steelers had some quality young receiving options.

But even with an unusual offseason, the 2020 second-round pick was able to make the most of his opportunities in the early going. Despite seeing just 24 targets on the season, Claypool has turned his looks into 335 receiving yards (19.7 yards per catch) and 4 receiving touchdowns. In addition, Claypool has been a threat on the ground as well – punching in 2 of his 6 rushes for scores. He’s also come up just short on several other would-be scores as he lunged for the goal line.

While touchdowns aren’t an easy statistic to prorate for many factors, if his pace continued as it has been, Chase Claypool would be on track to put the ball in the endzone a whopping 19 times this year. With numbers like that, it would be really hard for the young wide receiver not to come away with Rookie of the Year honors – even in a draft class that includes several impressive young quarterbacks.
