Chukwuma Okorafor hasn’t been great in 2020

The lackluster play of Chukwuma Okorafor means that he ranks behind some backups by PFF in their grading. You don’t have to take it as gospel, but I agree with them majorly in a key factor. Okorafor is a liability in the run game. I would say that he is serviceable in pass protection but as a run-blocker, he is just bad. That is where former Bengals tackle, and cap casualty, Cordy Glenn comes into the picture.

Glenn would be a significant upgrade over Chuks in the pass-blocking department coming over from the left tackle spot in which he started for Cincinnati. He isn’t a very good run-blocker, as he is probably a little below average. However, a little below average is still much better than just bad. Glenn is still a free agent – more by his choosing than anything. I believe he has been holding out for either a long-term deal or a short-term deal with a winner at the age of 31. He could come in and start opposite of Alejandro Villanueva right away.

Not only would he be a big upgrade right now, but he may also very well be accepting of a cheaper deal. If he were to sign a 3-4 year deal, the Steelers could pay him a little more, while pushing off the problems losing Big Al this offseason would present. It would more than likely turn into a competition between Zach Banner and Glenn for the starting left tackle position next season, while the loser would start at right tackle. Glenn could probably find more money this offseason, however, he wouldn’t be the first former rival who signed with Pittsburgh for less money in hopes of winning. You can think back to Joe Haden when the Browns cut him before their rebuild.
