Eric Ebron is legit. He doesn’t have eye-popping stats, yet shouldn’t be discredited.

Ebron is not having an All-pro year statistically. He doesn’t get a ton of targets, aside from on 3rd downs, and, in or near the RedZone. Yet, when he gets opportunities he delivers. If you need to think about how much of an athlete he is, look at his game-winning touchdown against Dallas. He took off just before the 3-yard line to hurdle a defender and he landed almost a yard past the goal-line. He almost covered 12 feet to get into the endzone in one leap.

It isn’t just his athleticism that makes him such a great player. His skill set as a tight end is essential for the Steelers new favorite set on important drives. When they put 4 WR’s and 1 TE on the field. They could not do that with the same success if they didn’t have Ebron. He isn’t the best blocker, but downfield he is as good as most receivers in the NFL when it comes to running routes and catching the ball. He is still a better blocker than a lot of receivers so he does fit in the tight end spot.

He isn’t going to hit 1,000 yards receiving in 2020. Yet, he has 3 touchdowns in the last 4 games, and now that Ben is starting to develop that chemistry with him, there is no reason he couldn’t come on fire late in the season and end with 10 or more touchdowns before the playoffs start. It is because of his importance on 3rd downs, RedZone situations, and how vital he is to their best offensive set that he is the most underrated player to us as Steelers’ fans on the offense.
