Inconsistencies from pass-catchers

There is no doubt that the Steelers have a talented, young group of wide receivers. But that doesn’t mean that they are perfect. This group can look dominant in one game and completely off the mark the next.

This was on full display against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 12. As the team had an eye-popping number of drops and a pair of fumbles from their wide receivers. Diontae Johnson was at the center of this. Johnson can be the best receiver on the team at times, but nobody is more frustrating to watch than him when things aren’t going well. Against the Ravens, he recorded just 46 yards on 11 targets to go with a fumble and several big drops.

The inconsistencies don’t just come from Johnson. Chase Claypool has let some opportunities slip through his fingers down the field and Eric Ebron has had a case of the drops in recent weeks. Even JuJu Smith-Schuster will have the occasional big third-down drop (though he has been the most consistent weapon on the team).

This group is very young and still has a lot of room to grow. However, they can’t afford to let these inconsistencies persist into the playoffs this year.
