Losers: The run game

It seemed like the Steelers opted to change nothing from last week’s game against the Ravens when it comes to the offense. Instead of trying to establish the run, this unit was more than content with only trying to throw the ball like last week. Even worse, when this group tried to run, they were weak.

The offensive line struggled to get any sort of a push (a growing trend with this offense) and lead back Benny Snell looked lackluster. While eight carries make it hard to get anything going, the fact that he only amassed five yards on those carries was bad. Anthony McFarland was better, but not by much. He ran for 15 yards on the day and flashed some of the speed that made him such an intriguing fit in this offense.

Throw in Jaylen Samuels one carry and that was the story of the day for this unit. 13 total carries, despite the game always being close and the Steelers having the lead for a good portion of the game. While his lack of success was tough to overcome, it didn’t help that this unit was abandoned as it has been so recently. It was yet another bad day for this rushing unit, and the group has little momentum going forward.
