Loser: Playcalling

Easily the worst aspect of this game was the absolutely baffling play calling that this offense employed. The team was coming off a near loss to the Ravens. In that game, they threw the ball over fifty times, abandoned the run, and struggled to move the ball. One would think that the Steelers would try something new this week in order to kick start this offense.

Instead, this offense threw the ball over fifty times, abandoned the run, and struggled to move the ball. There is no single bigger reason for the loss this week than the fact that this offense was a carbon copy of last week’s. Yes, the team tried running more, but at the end of the day, they opted to keep the ball in the air despite that being the strength of the Washington defense.

The results were as expected: this unit struggled to consistently move the ball and failed to score a lot of points. This offense was safe, which is fine when you are up, but once that lead slipped, this offense remained stagnate. It bit the Steelers finally, as it led to their first loss of the season. Moving forward, this team will have to find some sort of balance and success not just through the air, but also on the ground.

The Steelers came out sluggish, and that theme haunted them this week. Unfortunately, it led to the Steelers’ first loss of the season. While this team is still talented, they seemingly have plenty of issues to work on this coming week as they look to get back on track next Sunday.
