Steelers Haskins keeps the good times going

There may be no larger focus on the team than how Dwayne Haskins will do as a Steelers quarterback during camp. His signing seemed to split the fan base, but early reports about him have been extremely positive. Granted, the team is still in practice mode, and a lot can change, but he has done about as good of a job as you could have hoped for.

The next step for him is to parlay his early success into preseason success. While he won’t have an optimal team around him, the receivers should be ok. Rico Bussey has been a stud so far in camp while deep threats like Mathew Sexton and Isaiah McKoy can benefit from Haskins’ strong arm. Add in the tight ends, who have also had a strong camp, and Haskins could make some big plays with his arms.

It won’t be all easy though, as stated before this offensive line should be a huge concern right now. This could lead to some sacks (especially for a quarterback as un-athletic as Haskins) and potentially even a pick. That said, I believe Haskins will keep the hot start he is off to going and step up in a big way. He may not have the best overall individual performance (I believe that will go to Brooks), but he should have plenty of positives to take away from after his Steelers debut.

The Hall of Fame game will be a good time for younger players to show that they can perform in-game settings. While not everyone will thrive, there should be plenty to analyze from this game. Keep these five bold predictions in the back of your mind as the Steelers open their season against the Cowboys.
