What Happens Next?

Based on statements from the Steelers and the media, they publicly debunked any notion of a trade. At least for now. What happens when the media confront Washington, well that will be the next chapter in this unfolding story.

So it appears James Washington will remain a Pittsburgh Steeler for now. That said, if the story is valid, there are potential trade options the Steelers could explore. Some potential trading partners have been thrown out there, such as the Eagles, Kansas City, the Saints. All could use some upgrades with their wide receivers, and Washington could see more playing time and a chance to showcase his talent to try to land a larger contract. Yet that still leaves what the Steelers would get in return. While analysts have explored trading partners, no one has focused much on what the Steelers would get in compensation; however one would have to figure any trade would likely be for draft picks in either 2022 or 2023.

That said, if you wade through the comments Canada made in Brian Batko’s story it would appear Canada sees how talented Washington is.  As Canada rewrites the Steelers offensive playbook and adding new plays or formations they did not use in the previous season, Canada seems to be indicating whatever he’s working on, Washington figures prominently.
