Steelers Norwood makes some moves

One of the Steelers’ draft picks I was initially unimpressed with was Tre Norwood. The former Oklahoma safety had good stats, but he also played on one of the worst collegiate defenses and had some tackling issues. He entered camp with some hype about his position versatility, and during the Hall of Fame game, he played well as a traditional free safety.

With Antoine Brooks being injured for most of the recent practices, I think Norwood gets a chance to move around a bit more. While he should see the majority of his snaps at free safety, he could play more in the slot due to Brooks’ injury. He could even see some more dime roles as the sixth defensive back.

Will this lead to a huge game? Not necessarily, but for a player that was lauded for his position flexibility, Norwood hasn’t really shown that element yet. This week will be a great opportunity for the rookie though, and I expect him to fully embrace it. Don’t be surprised to see Norwood all over the defense this week and ideally, he makes some big plays because of it.
