OG Kevin Dotson

I think most Steelers fans were surprised to learn that Kevin Dotson wasn’t considered a starter upon his return to full-team practices. Head coach Mike Tomlin essentially stated that he hasn’t proven anything yet and that the second-year player is going to have to earn his spot.

This makes sense to a degree, but Dotson was arguable the best offensive lineman on the team when he played last year. He has four starts under his belt and seemed like the obvious choice to take over this year. On the other hand, Tomlin seemed to be okay with paying Zach Banner $9.5 million over the next two years despite 2 career starts by the age of 27.

Fortunately for Dotson, he still has time to earn the starting left guard job, and I believe he will do that. Rashad Coward isn’t very good, and I expect Dotson to play with an added chip on his shoulder tonight.

We hope that Dotson is healthy and finally up to speed, but for some reason or another, he just doesn’t seem to be in good graces with the coaching staff right now. I’m hoping for a dominant performance against the Eagles so he can start getting some much-needed work with the starters before the regular season.
