EDGE Quincy Roche

This one pains me to say, but if I’m being honest, I think Quincy Roche is just barely on the outside looking in at this point in time. I was a big fan of Roche last year at Miami. Though not the biggest or most athletic, Roche possesses an arsenal of moves beyond his years and simply knows how to get after the quarterback.

Following the draft, I wrote about Roche being a roster lock for the Steelers, barring a big free-agent signing. Well, that’s out the window. While Roche could certainly make the roster, the addition of Melvin Ingram is going to make that more difficult.

Over the past few years, Pittsburgh has only kept four edge defenders on their 53-man roster. If they follow the same trend, it’s going to be very difficult for Roche to make the team. The top three players are clearly locked with T.J. Watt, Alex Highsmith, and Melvin Ingram. Outside of that, it’s a race to be the fourth man – one Roche may not be winning.

Though I hardly view Cassius Marsh as a special player, he’s probably been more consistent in training camp so far, and the coaching staff could factor that into their final decision. I really like Quincy Roche, but he may need to show a little more to stick around on the final roster in 2021.
