Steelers Cornerbacks (6)

Joe Haden, Cameron Sutton, James Pierre, Antoine Brooks Jr., Justin Layne, Mark Gilbert

This is another position that could have some potential shockers with the final few spots at cornerback.  Joe Haden is looking for a contract extension to finish his career in Pittsburgh, he’s a lock for this season.  Cameron Sutton is expected to be the other outside corner (in base defense) to start the season, so he’s a lock for the 53.

James Pierre and Antoine Brooks Jr. will both see plenty of playtime this season. Steelers will either move Sutton into the slot in nickel passing situations which will allow Pierre to play outside. Antoine Brooks has been playing entirely in the slot, when he’s in either Sutton or Pierre can play the outside cornerback spot opposite of Haden. Both Brooks and Pierre are locks for the roster.

With 4 cornerbacks already locked into their roles, it will likely allow just 2 more players to make the final 53.  Justin Layne needed a good off-season and before last night it wasn’t going great, but he did have an interception in the 3rd quarter. He’s still on his rookie deal so Steelers will hope he can continue to improve. Mark Gilbert has been playing well in the preseason game and he might be able to steal the 6th CB spot over Arthur Maulet.
