The offensive line will improve.

I stand by the statement that individually most of the offensive line has an incredibly bright future. Of the actual starters(to me this is excluding Chukwuma Okorafor), Trai Turner looks like the worst lineman individually most of the time and he is a former pro-bowler. The amount of talent and potential in Dotson, Green, and Moore is tantalizing. The problem is they are all so young and have zero time together.

There possibly isn’t a position group in football that requires more teamwork and communication than an offensive line. Moore and Green are both rookies while Dotson is learning his second scheme in only his second year in the league. What we are seeing right now would be more akin to growing pains than anything else.

The vast majority of errors made by the offensive line I’ve seen throughout the first 3 weeks of tape were on communication. Look at this poorly picked up blitz above for example. It’s likely either Najee Harris didn’t know his man would be coming up the middle, or the Steelers failed to redirect their pressure to the left side of the line.

Cincinnati rushed 6 and because the majority of the line and Harris are so young there was a free shot at Ben which led to the pick. That being said every guy that was getting blocked wasn’t going anywhere. Turner held up the worst on this play but kept his guy out of the backfield.

As a whole, this team looks like it can get healthy and play together by the second half of the season. I’m excited about November and December football because I expect the Steelers to make the playoff hunt very interesting.
