Step 3: Find a Quarterback

With Ben Roethlisberger retiring after this season, it is now time for the Pittsburgh Steelers to search for their new franchise quarterback. This is one of the hardest things to do in football, but I believe there are some potential guys in this draft that could be Ben’s replacement. The Steelers are likely to use either their 1st or 2nd round pick in this year’s draft on a quarterback. If they are smart they will draft Tyler Linderbaum in the first and use their second pick on the quarterback of the future.

The question is what quarterback will slide into the second round for the Steelers to go after? This is a tricky question because this year’s draft is considered to be a lackluster selection for quarterbacks. I do not believe that to be the case. I do believe one quarterback will fall into the lap of the Steelers in the 2nd round and that quarterback is Malik Willis from Liberty University. Some experts believe he will be a 1st round pick, but some believe he could drop into the 2nd round or even 3rd depending on the combine. If he does indeed fall into the 2nd round, the Steelers need to and select him.

Willis is a guy that fits into the new style of quarterback play in the NFL. He has a big arm and can use his legs when needed. He finished the year with a 61.1% completion percentage throwing for  2857 yards. He had 27 touchdowns and 12 interceptions to finish the season. With the low completion percentage and the high amount of interceptions, this is why I believe he will fall into the 2nd round.

The one reason why he is so sought after is because of his mobility. He finished the year with 878 rushing yards and 13 rushing touchdowns averaging 4.5 yards a carry. The Steelers haven’t had a mobile quarterback since Ben’s early years and I think it’s time for a change in Pittsburgh.
