4. Steelers should consider DT Devonta Wyatt

No interior defensive lineman at the Senior Bowl was more impressive from what I saw than Georgia’s Devonta Wyatt. While Wyatt is often underlooked because of playing alongside the freakishly huge Jordan Davis,  he offers traits that Davis cannot — quick twitch and the ability to get to the quarterback in a hurry.

This was on full display in Mobile, as Wyatt easily won most of his one-on-one reps in OL vs DL drills. Wyatt was already considered a late-first or early-second-round pick by most NFL Draft analysts prior to Senior Bowl week, and he certainly only improved his draft stock with a great showing in practice.

The Steelers may have a dilemma on their hands when it comes to their defensive interior. Cameron Heyward was once again an All-Pro player in 2021, but there are numerous question marks outside of him. Stephon Tuitt may not return to the team this year, while Tyson Alualu might have just one season left in the tank before retirement and he is coming off a season-ending injury.

Wyatt is more in the mold of the Javon Hargrave 3-technique type than a Stephon Tuitt, but he’s just a very good football player who could be a valuable asset to this team. He should be in consideration in the first round.

There were a handful of other players who impressed during Senior Bowl week, but these four would make a lot of sense for Pittsburgh to target in the 2022 NFL Draft. I’ll be interested to see if they will continue to be on the Steelers radar throughout the pre-draft process.
