The Steelers have a need for speed on offense, and Mike Tomlin knows it. Some of Pittsburgh’s best years on the offensive side of the ball under Coach Tomlin came when they had elite deep threats in Mike Wallace and Martavis Bryant.

In recent years, their downfield passing game has become stagnant. This is partially because Ben Roethlisberger could no longer sling the rock down the field with ease and partially because they didn’t have the right personnel on the team.

While I thoroughly believe Chase Claypool could have a much better year in 2023 with a better downfield-passing QB at the helm, he wins more with body control than elite speed. Adding a burner like Will Fuller to Pittsburgh’s offense could give them an element they have been lacking for years.

Fuller wouldn’t outpace Diontae Johnson for targets, but he would play a pivotal role on offense. If the Steelers are about to lose JuJu Smith-Schuster and Diontae Johnson in free agency, Tomlin might not mind forking up for a player who can take the top off the defense. Fuller played just 2 games in 2021 and was suspended for 6 games in 2021 after testing positive for PEDs, but Mike Tomlin could look past this for the talent.
