6 potential cap casualties the Steelers must sign in 2022

Steelers should target Collins
Ever since he signed his mega-deal with the Commanders, Landon Collins was seemingly always a name that was on the trade block. The issue was, Collins was paid a large sum of money in a year where the safety market tanked. While he played ok, he wasn’t the dynamic player he was with the Giants. As a result, the Commanders wanted out.
They can finally cut him this season and actually save cap space, so there is a good chance that Collins finds himself a free agent. With the Steelers set to let Terrell Edmunds test free agency, finding a capable replacement is a must. Unfortunately, the draft isn’t filled with top safety names, so spending some money on a new strong safety would have to be the move.
Collins honestly would work well in that role. While not the All-Pro that he was with the Giants. Collins is still a capable run defender and can cover man to man. As well, he would only be 28 next season, meaning that he should still have 2-3 quality seasons left in him if he were to be added. If Edmunds ends up walking and Collins is cut, he will have to be a target for the Steelers in free agency.
