Connor Heyward is a type of player that Mike Tomlin will fall in love with during the draft process. This young buck is the younger brother of Cam Heyward. Those NFL ties and family roots are something Pittsburgh covets in talent acquisition.

The Steelers also like implementing a swiss army knife type of player that can play multiple spots on the team. Heyward will be able to play good snaps on special teams and contribute in certain offensive packages. This football player is physical and willing to do anything to help his team win.

Jaylen Samuels was a player that Tomlin liked and came out of college playing different positions like running back and some tight-end. Heyward has been utilized more in the blocking and passing game this past year at Michigan State. He had to change his game and focus on becoming more of a tight end and full back.

He is a big physical player that can overpower his opponents. He will need to get better in the technical aspects of his game in the NFL. Most will see him as a full-back but he can also transition to tight end or a hybrid player to deploy on offense.

He has a good ability to catch passes with some soft hands that many will be surprised by. Heyward would be a nice addition to provide competition for Derek Watt and the last tight end spot on the Steelers. He is currently projected to go late on day three, which would be a nice seventh-round pick by the black and gold.
