CB Joe Haden

Unlike the two players mentioned before him on this list, Joe Haden has been an excellent former free agent signing by Kevin Cobert — one of the best in recent memory, in fact. However, father time catches up with everyone sooner or later, and Haden’s age was really starting to show in 2021.

This shouldn’t have been unexpected. We have seen far greater cornerbacks fizzle out even faster and it’s becoming increasingly rare to see 32-year-old cornerbacks starting in today’s NFL. However, it’s for these reasons that we know that it’s time for Haden to hang up his cleats.

Whenever the Steelers played a high-powered passing offense last year, Haden instantly became one of the weakest links on the team. In his two games against the Kansas City Chiefs last year, he allowed nearly a perfect passer rating and couldn’t seem to stay within five yards of his assignment.

Haden has had a phenomenal NFL career, but at this point, there’s not much difference between him and a guy like James Pierre who is riding the bench for pennies. Haden certainly does not deserve another chance to come back and start for the Steelers in 2022.
