Steelers could pursue Marquise Goodwin

If the Steelers are simply looking for a depth signing who could give them some speed down the field on occasion, Marquise Goodwin might be a decent option. Goodwin has never been a very productive receiver in his eight-year NFL career, but he can take the top off the defense when on the field.

Goodwin has averaged a thoroughly impressive 16.5 yards per reception throughout his career, but his usage has been inconsistent and he’s usually not much of a threat to score (just 14 career touchdowns).

Still, 4.27 speed is hard to come by. Though Goodwin is probably a step slower now at 31 years old, he would still be the fastest receiver in Pittsburgh. Several years back, Darrius Heyward-Bey occasionally gave the Steelers a spark on offense with his down-field speed, and Goodwin could potentially do the same.

Goodwin couldn’t be counted on in a full-time role, but there’s a place for him on an NFL roster. The best part is that he should be very affordable at this point.
