Steelers tragedy causes Twitter uproar over odd, dumb media comments
Who is Gil Brandt
One of the comments uttered fame from an unlikely source. If you have ever listened to NFL radio on SiriusXM at one time or another, you have heard the perspective of Gil Brandt. Brandt, 90, has been involved with the NFL since 1958. He served as a scout for the Rams, 49ers, and the Dallas Cowboys.
Brandt was responsible for unconventional draft picks for the Cowboys, including Roger Staubach, and Herschel Walker. He was instrumental in signing undrafted free agents such as Drew Pearson, Cliff Harris, and Everson Walls. His trades led to the Cowboys’ acquisition of Randy White, Ed “Too Tall” Jones, and Tony Dorsett. In 2019 the NFL inducted him into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
What Brandt Said
Brandt, when he speaks, is very captivating with his knowledge of pro football. If you have heard his analysis on NFL radio, he is someone quite insightful and has a unique understanding of the game.
When the news broke of Haskins’ passing, Brandt’s comments shocked many listeners. He made some disgraceful comments which may impact his role as a commentator with NFL Radio. When asked about evaluating Dwayne Haskins, Brandt described Haskins as a “guy living to be dead.” He then criticized his decision to leave college early, saying, “maybe if he stayed in school a year, he wouldn’t do silly things which alluded to the fact he was struck by a vehicle while crossing the interstate.
