Steelers must target Alec Pierce

If the Steelers elect to go a different route in round two or if Pickens is not available, Alec Pierce is an excellent consolation prize. For my money, Pierce is the single-most underrated receiver in the 2022 NFL Draft.

Pierce has a remarkable skill set but is more than just an athlete. At 6’3 1/8” and 211 pounds, Pierce has a similar body type to Pickens, but the Cincinnati product is actually a superior athlete (and it shows up on tape). Pierce ran an official 4.41 at the NFL Combine to go with a remarkable 40.5” vertical and 10’9” broad jump.

Strictly from size and athletic standpoint, Pierce compares favorably to former Steelers speedster, Martavis Bryant. He wins in some of the same ways as well. Pierce could be an excellent deep threat at the next level thanks to his long speed and massive catch radius to put his foot in the ground and go up and get the ball.

Christian Watson is the big, athletic receiver that has drawn all of the buzz this offseason, but Alec Pierce is on that same level, but with more consistent college tape. He would give the Steelers another versatile weapon with great size and speed.
