Cleveland Browns Defensive Grade: C+

Cleveland‘s defense sits in the same boat as Cincinnati’s when it comes to having a defensive lineup on the younger side. Because of both that and their statistical performance from last season, there is very little to say about them.

There are some promising names amongst the defensive backs, including but not limited to Grant Delpit and Denzel Ward. Outside of the cornerback and safety units, though, there isn’t much on the active roster to rave over beyond Myles Garrett.

Statistically, the defense was a solid one in 2021, but there is definitely some work needed before it can perform as good as its potential allows. Said work includes acquiring playmakers–through drafting, trading, free agency, etc.–and letting the talents that Cleveland already has grow into their roles.

In short, the current Browns defense looks very average in its entirety, and it has been given a rather average grade as a result.
