Steelers should pursue OT Matt Waletzko

One of the most telling drills at the Senior Bowl is the one-on-one OL vs DL. Typically, the offensive linemen who can hold their own and dominate this drill end up being very good players at the next level.

I watched every OL vs DL snap at the Senior Bowl twice, and the giant with the bright green helmet continued to stand out for me. Matt Waletzko held his own against both speed and power at the Senior Bowl. I was even more impressed with how he tested at the NFL combine.

At 6’7 5/8” and 312 pounds, Waletzko still needs to add NFL muscle, but his absurd 85 5/8” wingspan and 36 1/8” arms put him in the 97th percentile for length. Waletzko also tested as a 99.5th percentile athlete, according to RAS.

The North Dakota product clearly has some remarkable traits to work with. He probably needs a year or so in an NFL weight program, but he has the potential to be a starting left tackle in the NFL if all goes well. This is something the Steelers should be highly interested in.
