Steelers draft winners: Dan Moore Jr. and Chukwuma Okorafor

While Dan Moore Jr. and Chukwuma Okorafor were already expected to enter the season as the Steelers starting offensive tackles, the expectation was that the team would select a developmental tackle with a mid to late-round draft selection. That was not the case though as the Steelers did not spend any draft capital on the offensive line, leaving the group as is.

With the team not selecting an offensive lineman in the draft, that proves that the team is comfortable with where the group is at entering next season. Thus, the team’s two starting tackles are big winners from the NFL Draft, as both of them will have a much longer leash as the starter this year than they would have if the team had drafted a tackle. Since the team did not draft anyone, there is no high upside option to insert into the lineup if either is struggling, so they will likely spend the whole year as the starter, barring injury.

Though this doesn’t mean that these two are the long-term answers at the position, it does ensure that the Steelers want to find out what they have in these two this season, so they can decide if they will be part of the future.

I think the Steelers should have added an offensive tackle as some insurance, due to the offensive line being one of the team’s biggest weaknesses last year, but the team clearly felt comfortable with where it is at. Only time will tell if that was the right call or not, but for now, these two are among the winners from the draft.
