Steelers could target hometown linebacker

The Steeler’s linebacking core will almost certainly see a massive shakeup before taking the field next season. Devin Bush has likely played his last game as a member of Mike Tomlin’s defense as he saw his snap count diminish greatly towards the end of the 2022 campaign, and is a free agent this offseason after Pittsburgh declined his fifth-year option.

Robert Spillane, like Bush, will also be a free agent this offseason. Pittsburgh currently has two linebackers under contract for next year that saw significant playing time. Rookie Mark Robinson and Myles Jack are the two. Jack had an underwhelming year after receiving a decent payday from the Steelers and will account for 11.25 million dollars against the cap if he is not restructured or potentially cut to save that money. Robinson is still very raw and struggled at times during his rookie season.

We are just one year removed from the Pittsburgh Steelers drafting a former Pitt Panther, and we could potentially see history repeat itself in 2023 at the linebacker position with SirVocea Dennis

The former Pitt Panther has made the most of his opportunities so far in practice this week, taking on the likes of Florida’s O’Cyrus Torrence, a first-round draft prospect. Dennis has also shown his versatility in both the run and pass game.

While Dennis doesn’t immediately fix the Steelers woes at the second level, he does provide solid depth that could help put together a capable linebacking core if the team can bring a free agent such as Tremaine Edmunds or David Long Jr.
