Ranking free agent QB targets for Steelers to backup Kenny Pickett

2. Jacoby Brissett would give the Steelers a veteran presence
Jacoby Brissett really is the type of quarterback the Pittsburgh Steelers could use behind Kenny Pickett. The veteran does have 48 career starts since entering the league back in 2016, but he will be content operating as a team’s QB2 at this stage in his career.
Brissett doesn’t have a particularly impressive win percentage when asked to start, but he does have 48 touchdowns to pair with only 23 career interceptions. He is also coming off a year in which he started 11 of 16 games he suited up for.
Brissett is one of the better backup quarterbacks in the league, but despite his ability to start, his estimated market value is just $5.4 million per season, according to SpotracPitts. If this holds true, the Steelers could save close to $3 million by cutting Trubisky and perhaps even get an upgrade in the process at backup quarterback.
With Trubisky still in the prime of his career, he may want to go to a team where he can get one more shot as a starter. That chance won’t come in Pittsburgh with Kenny Pickett here. Cutting Trubisky and signing Jacoby Brissett would make some sense.
