Ramon Foster is one of the staples on the Steelers’ offensive line. We can’t let him leave in free-agency.

As free-agency approaches, the Steelers usually re-sign their own guys before dipping into the free-agent pool. GM Kevin Colbert has already re-signed SS Robert Golden and WR Darrius Heyward-Bey, who aren’t flashy by any means but they’ve reliable when called upon. Besides William Gay, there’s another pending UFA that Colbert must bring back.

That guy is Roman Foster.

Roman Foster is one of the staples on the Steelers’ offensive line. Although Foster wants to remain in Pittsburgh, he’s fully prepared to enter FA.

“The thing is that the Steelers have a lot of stuff that they have to take care of, and me being a free agent, that’s an open market opportunity right there,” Foster said.

If Foster were to leave, the Steelers would a ‘Stargate’ size hole at left guard. The team has the likes of B.J. Finney and Chris Hubbard, but both are so unproven at this point. I think it’s vital for the Steelers to keep familiar faces on the offensive line. I’m not saying that no other guy could come in and do the job, I’m just saying that we need to stay consistent, especially with trying to keep Big Ben from long (or short) term injury.

I know I’ll probably get flack for this, but I think Alejandro Villanueva proved himself a lot last season. That’s why it’s crucial for the Steelers to keep Foster here, assuming Beachum leaves in free-agency.

Foster is a known voice to Villanueva, they’ve worked right along side each other in the trenches, in front of some pretty tough defensive fronts.

Next: Steelers re-sign wide receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey

As long as the Steelers re-sign Foster, I couldn’t care less who we get in free-agency. I’d rather have Foster then a “splash” free-agent like Eric Weddle.
