Hines Ward is done with the NFL, but it seems like he could very quickly go back to his college roots back in Georgia. Ward spent Tuesday with his alma mater at UGA. He spent the day working with the coaches. Sounds like they find the true value in Ward at this stage in his career – leadership. I know that we were all hoping ‘Smiles’ would find his way on the Steelers coaching staff in the near future… like tomorrow. But, that offer hasn’t been made. Scottie Montgomery seems to be doing a fine job… but who’s to say Ward didn’t play a big part in Wallace’s, Brown’s, and Sanders’ development?
The Bulldogs’ coaching staff reports that Ward will be spending some on and off time with the team.
"‘He’s going to spend some time over here, a couple of days to see what all we do. Not just out there in practice, but to see, hey, what do you do out there in recruiting, kind of see if that’s something he wants to do, kind of like when coaches come and visit.’ – OC Mike Bobo"
UGA has a history of hiring alumni. Perhaps Ward will like the whole recruiting scene that college coaches do year round. Frankly, I’m happy for him no matter what he decides to do. The guy deserves to get his dream job – which Ward has stated before would be to coach for Georgia.
He’ll probably sign on soon, and the tradition of strong wide outs coming out of Georgia will only get bigger and stronger with Ward in as the coach. Hmmmm…. better sign him to a long term contract, Dogs.
